Western Fiction
A Western is an adventure story set west of the Mississippi River in the late nineteenth century, usually with a male protagonist, and usually aimed at male readers. -"Read the High County: A Guide to Western Books and Films".
Western stories can be about anything from deperadoes, cowboys, lawmen, fur traders, pioneers, war, mining, river traffic, railroads or Native Americans. There are western romance novels, western thrillers/suspense/mystery novels, or even western poetry.
